DDP, the mecca of the design creation industry is a world-class architecture and one of Korea’s major landmarks that serves as a platform to create a design world that Koreans and people from around the world make and enjoy together. The Seoul Design Foundation (SDF) focuses on planning and implementing citizen-led design development projects, presenting new lifestyles, and making practical changes in food, housing, and garments for everyday citizens by expanding the design infrastructure through increased citizens’ participation. And DDP plays a vital role in making all these possible.
Promotion of design industry
SDF is committed to creating the value and effects of design that can directly help people’s lives. SDF is also working on creating a Seoul design brand cycle including contests, new product development, distribution, sale, and marketing campaigns in order to empower outstanding design crafts to be used as lifestyle design assets both in Korea and overseas. New product development, contests, and other projects are planned and carried out in phase with local specialty items and close collaboration with various parties as a part of SDF’s activities to provide customized support.
Raise public awareness about design
SDF uses design as a powerful and effective tool to perform its public roles, and addresses social issues. SDF’s major projects aimed at increasing the public value of design are the international Human City Design Awards, the promotion of upcycling culture, design research and education, and design larchiveum that provides design-specific data and opportunities to gain hands-on design experiences. The design education and research programs help Seoul citizens develop their creativity, discover hidden problems and values in their life, and deal with them with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life on a personal and community level.
